Great new fantasy book series. I was a little hesitant at first thinking the elemental powers thing would be too Avatar-like, but so happy I gave it a try. Tons of plot twists that turned everything on its head. Highly recommend. Cool map as well.

Wow. As a lifelong fan of the fantasy genre who has read hundreds of books like this, I’m not easy to surprise. But a shocking plot twist upended all expectations and made me a fan of this series and this author. So did a kickass heroine, heart-pounding action scenes, impressively deep mythology that feels classic yet original, not to mention a slow burn romance and a compelling mystery that pulls you through the book. I also found the strength of the female friendships really appealing.

I told my husband, "You know it's going to be good when there's a map," and this book did not disappoint! It is well-paced and keeps you turning the pages with just the right amount of mystery, action, romance, and surprise. I truly enjoyed the diverse group of gifted characters, and I think this captivating story will appeal to a wide range of fantasy readers. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.
